About the Ideal Weight Calculator
Ideal body weight (IBW) equations were historically developed for adult dosing and anthropometric reference — not as personalized wellness prescriptions. This calculator shows commonly cited formulas so you can see how estimates differ.
What this tool does
It estimates adult ideal body weight from height and sex using published formulas such as Devine, Robinson, Miller, and Hamwi.
How the result is calculated
Each selected formula applies its published coefficients to height (and sex where required). Results convert to kg or lb. No calorie, BMI, or body-fat model is embedded in these classic IBW equations.
Important limitations
Equations do not model muscle mass, bone density, age, pregnancy, or ethnicity. Heights below about 5 feet may be rejected by the original formulas. An “ideal” label is not the same as a healthy or athletic weight.
