About the BMI Calculator
This BMI calculator estimates body mass index from your height and weight using the standard Quetelet formula. Calculations run in your browser. BMI is an educational screening number, not a diagnosis.
What this tool does
BMI summarizes the relationship between weight and height. It does not describe body composition, fitness, or disease risk on its own.
How the result is calculated
Weight is converted to kilograms and height to meters when needed. BMI = weight (kg) ÷ height (m)². Adult results can be compared with commonly cited WHO adult category bands.
Important limitations
BMI does not measure body fat, visceral fat, or lean mass. It can misclassify muscular athletes, some older adults, people with edema, and pregnant individuals. Pediatric interpretation needs growth charts.
